Voter Registration Program

We’re launching a series of engaging voter registration events across Southside Hampton Roads!Whether you’re registering to vote for the first time, updating your information, or helping others get involved, we’ve got something for you. Explore the options below to learn more about upcoming events, and be sure to check back often—we’re continuously adding new opportunities to get involved and make your voice count.

Voter registration is a primary activity for Civic Innovations, a service we offer it at every opportunity.

Our Voter Registration Drives are like an Information Station—accessible, welcoming, and focused on empowering the community. At each event, we do more than just help people get registered. We make sure residents know how to check or update their registration, where their polling location is, and why their voice matters in this election.

Our team provides non-partisan resources, answers common voting questions, and connects voters with the tools they need to make informed decisions.Whether you’re a first-time voter or just need a refresher, our goal is to make the process simple, informative, and impactful—for every voter we meet.

WHO Is Registered?

CI² is trained by the Virginia Department of Elections to help people with voter registration.

We check if someone is registered to vote. If they aren’t, or if they need to update their information (like their address), we help them fill out the forms and send them in.

Teens who are 16 or 17 can also register with us, and we explain how it works, including why some 17-year-olds can vote in certain elections.

If someone lost their right to vote because of a felony, we can also share how they might be able to get it back.

WHERE To Vote?

We customize our voter registration drives to the locality where we are holding the drive, making sure the information we share is directly relevant and easy to understand.

For example, if the drive is in Chesapeake, we create up-to-date maps of the local districts and precincts so participants can visually “see” where they fit within the city’s election structure.

We also help individuals identify their polling location, elected officials, and upcoming ballot issues. If there’s any uncertainty, we’re right there to look it up online—ensuring everyone leaves informed, empowered, and ready to vote.

WHY is the fun part

We follow the local and state issues for each locality and are prepared to explain what matters will be addressed by the elected officials—highlighting topics that may be especially important to the residents we’re serving.

Whether it’s education, infrastructure, public safety, or tax policy, we help connect the dots between the candidates on the ballot and the real-world issues they’ll be shaping.

If available, we’ll also provide sample ballots for each precinct, along with clear, unbiased “Pro and Con” information for any referendums or constitutional amendments appearing on the ballot.

WHEN are registration drives?

All year long, at every opportunity, we bring the voter registration and civic education directly to the community.

We maintain a consistent presence at food distribution sites, job fairs, civic events, housing developments (with permission), senior citizen centers, libraries, and more—meeting people where they are, when it matters most.

Because we are strictly non-partisan, we are welcomed at events hosted by elected officials from any political party. Our focus remains on empowering voters with facts, not political agendas.

This includes 211 resource guides for essential services, brochures on Dominion Power’s energy assistance programs, and handy booklets with up-to-date contact information for all Virginia legislators and key government agencies.

We share details about upcoming vents, local services, and public meetings that residents might not otherwise hear about.
